Miss Republic of the Philippines
Miss Republic of the Philippines or Miss RP is a beauty pageant in the Philippines. It was first staged in 1969, when Spotlight Promotions of Ferdie Villar obtained the franchise of choosing the candidate of the Philippines for the annual Miss World beauty pageant.〔 The runners-up of Miss RP were awarded as Miss Luzon (1st runner-up), Miss Visayas (2nd runner-up), Miss Mindanao (3rd runner-up) and Miss Manila (4th runner-up).〔 Miss RP lasted until 1976, when the Miss World franchise was transferred to Mutya ng Pilipinas, and Miss RP 1976 Josephine Conde was recognized as the first Mutya ng Pilipinas – World, to distinguish it from the other winner of Mutya ng Pilipinas who competes in the Miss Asia Quest.〔〔
After a long hiatus, Miss Republic of the Philippines was held again in 2015, under Lynette Padolina, CEO of the revived organization, however the winner is not slated to compete and represent the Philippines in any international competition, instead the winner receives a scholarship grant for a four-year college course or post-graduate studies and will tour extensively to promote Philippine tourism and culture.
